  1. I think I like your Ranger Smith better than the original one. He looks kinda like Nixon. More... evil.

  2. I love that bear. He's a hungrier Yogi.

  3. Love it. A skilled hand with a sense of whimsy behind it.

  4. I love this one. Great redesigns and colors. The misspelling is funny too.

  6. It's like he mauled some camper and put on their clothes.

  7. Yogi Bear's voice is an imitation of Art Carney as Norton from "The Honeymooners" (1955). Yogi even wears a hat with the brim pushed up like Norton.

  10. Not to be a jerk but I have to ask - if a bear had enough cognitive reasoning to understand the ranger's sign and then create his own (not to mention wear a hat and tie), why wouldn't he be able to spell?

  15. An interesting note: The gag of the original cover was probably plagiarized from a 1955 cartoon by Robert Day that first appeared in Sports Illustrated and was later reprinted the Cartoonists Guild compilation "Animals, Animals, Animals." The cartoon had a park sign reading "Do not feed the bears" and a smirking but otherwise realistic moose with a sign around its neck saying "I am not a bear."

  16. A friend of mine suggested that Yogi probably doesn't talk, and it's all in Ranger Smith's head. Presumably he's the one that's put the hat and tie on Yogi. Going along those lines, that makes this gag even funnier, as he's probably set up this entire thing himself, and is just WAITING for this poor bear to do something so that he can come down on him like a ton of bricks.

    Crazy, crazy, Ranger Smith.
